Connectivity2020 is a project that individually engaged with friends and strangers during Covid-19. Emily spoke with one person at a time over a 30-50 minute call and in this duration she began and finished a painting. The voice of the speaker led the strokes of the painting.
Emily painted in response to the speaker's voice and emotions, translating and recording them in real-time onto paper. Through this project, the speaker becomes the co-creator and the process helps to release tension, console, and remind us of our shared humanity while creating this shared experience.
The painting at the end of each call contains lived experiences of trauma, loss, love, and joy, of the speaker in that specific moment in time, sealed into each stroke on the paper.
Re-watching the video recording of the painting process serves as a form of meditation and emotional healing. The full videos of the process and conversation are available upon request. Please note, in some cases the audio has been blurred for confidentially reasons.
